BAREILLY:
A woman from Deorania tehsil has filed a police complaint against a
lawyer, accusing him of raping her when she asked for his help in filing
a case of domestic violence against her husband.
The 35-year-old woman said in her complaint that the incident occurred on Thursday. The police have filed a case of rape against the lawyer but he has not been arrested. The accused lawyer has denied the charges.
Giving details, police said that the woman, a native of Dhara village under Puwaiyan police station in Shahjahanpur, was married to a man from Gannu Nagla village under Deorania police station 15 years ago. The couple has four children.
During the last few years, relations between the two had become strained leading to regular quarrels. The woman said in her complaint that she had no family member left in her native village so she continued to bear torture at the hands of her husband.
However, fed up with the harassment, she approached a lawyer at the Bareilly district court on Wednesday, seeking his help in claiming maintenance from her husband who had stopped giving her money for daily expenses.
The lawyer reportedly agreed to help her file a domestic violence case against her husband and fight for alimony and took her inside his chamber situated in the district court campus.
Once inside, he demanded a sum of Rs 500 and thereafter Rs 700 for preparing the case file which the woman paid. However, the man detained her at his chamber till evening and thereafter raped her.
The complainant alleged that when she tried to raise an alarm, the lawyer gagged her mouth and fled from the spot after raping her.
The traumatized woman, after regaining her composure, went to a nearby tea stall and narrated her tale to those present there. She was then taken to the Kotwali police station where a complaint was filed against the lawyer under different sections of the IPC.
Talking to TOI, SP, city, Rajeev Malhotra said, "On the complaint of the woman, we have filed a case under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code against the lawyer and the woman has been sent for medical examination after which her statement would be recorded before a magistrate. Arrest would follow only after completion of investigations and receiving medical report."
Meanwhile the accused lawyer, V P Singh Bauddh, has denied all allegations leveled against him and said it is part of a conspiracy by some persons to settle personal scores with him.
