Man asks lover to convert, then dumps her

BAREILLY: A 26-year-old woman is heartbroken after she went to the extent of getting herself converted to her lover's religion but he still dumped her.

The woman has petitioned senior cops and on the instructions of the district police chief, an FIR has been lodged against the man, who is working in the railways, and his parents at Kotwali police station.

Giving details, police said the woman from Moradabad fell in love with a man from a different community hailing from Bareilly and started living with him and his parents even though they were not married three years ago.

The man, who was unemployed at the time, allegedly asked the woman to convert to his religion after which he promised to marry her. However, even after the conversion, he refused to marry her, forcing her to seek help from the cops.

In her police complaint, the woman, a resident of Kapoor Nagar, Moradabad, said she came to Bareilly in 2009 to take up a private job. In the city, she shifted into a rented accommodation in D D Puram locality where she met a local youth from another community and she fell in love with him.

On the youth's insistence, she entered into a live-in relationship with him and started staying with him and his family at their rented accommodation. The woman claimed that during this period, the couple stayed together as husband and wife but the youth's parents insisted that before getting married, she should change her religion.

The woman wrote in her complaint that in this connection, they went to Haridwar where she was converted and given a new name.

She alleged that a few months ago, the youth got a class IV job in railways after which he started drifting away from her and began treating her shabbily. Her fervent pleas to enter into wedlock went unheard and instead, the man started blackmailing by her threatening to upload her pictures on the internet, she said in her complaint.

The harried woman then approached SSP who ordered Kotwali police to register an FIR against the youth and his parents.

Talking to TOI, SP, city, Rajeev Malhotra said, "We have registered a case against the accused and his parents under IPC section 376 (rape) and 420 (Forgery) at Kotwali police station on the complaint of the girl. Arrests would be made soon in this regard."
