State govt orders probe into school boy’s death

BAREILLY: The basic education minister, Ram Govind Chaudhary, on behalf of the state government has ordered a probe into the death of a 7-year-old boy at the hands of his principal on Monday.

"Although district authorities have already launched an inquiry into the matter, the state government has asked senior officials to order a magisterial inquiry into the incident," said Sanjay Kumar, district magistrate, Bareilly.

"We are on the course to lodge an FIR against the school on behalf of the department of basic education as serious irregularities have been detected during the initial probe. If the need arises, the school's recognition may also be cancelled," he said

Kumar added that the BSA has already lodged a case under different sections of the IPC against the school for failing to fulfill norms laid down by the government and now a magistrate would head the probe on the death of seven-year-old Aaraz, son of a daily wager Nasim Ahmad.

Meanwhile, police teams are trying to locate the whereabouts of school principal Avinash Saraswat and school manager Devendra Singh Rathor, who are on the run.

SP, rural areas, Brijesh Srivastava said, "We have launched a manhunt to nab the accused principal and manager and they will be caught soon. The postmortem report has clearly established that the boy died due to a head injury. We are also trying get a first-hand account from fellow students as to how the incident took place."

Convener of the parents forum, Khalid Jilani, said that the school authorities are trying to float the story that the boy died after falling from a swing, but till now they have not been able to give credible evidence to support their claim.

The principal of DSR school had reportedly beaten Aaraz to death on Monday as his parents had not paid his school fee for the past two months. He reportedly banged his head against the wall, which resulted in the boy slipping into a coma and eventually dying. The principal and manager then allegedly dumped his body on the highway and fled from the spot, which had led to a massive outrage.
