DELHI: Svasti Dutta is the queen of the Spell Bee. The Delhi Public
School, Rohini student is the champion for the National Capital Region
(NCR) of Classmate Spell Bee-Season 7, powered by The Times of India.
The national spelling contest covered 30 cities and saw participation of
about 2.66 lakh kids from Class V to IX from over 800 schools.
In the first phase, an on-ground exercise was conducted across 77 schools in Delhi-NCR where children were given spelling tests. The top 15 scorers from each school then competed in the city round and the top performers then moved on to the semi-final stage of the competition, an Radio Mirchi initiative.
Classmate has associated with the largest school-level competition in India that has entered its seventh season and Times NIE is the education partner for it. Dutta will now be among the 16 top scorers who will contest in the final round.
Chand Das, chief executive of ITC's education and stationery products business said, "Classmate has always endeavoured to recognize, nurture and celebrate the uniqueness of every child. Classmate Spell Bee Season 7 gives students yet another opportunity to identify and showcase their talents and skills on a nationwide platform. The programme reached out to an even larger number students across schools and cities in India this year through the school contact program coupled with the novel mobile app and dedicatedwebsite."
"Spell Bee has grown beyond being a just competition for school children," said Hitesh Sharma from Entertainment Network (India) Limited. "We at Radio Mirchi find it heartening to see the fresh talent dazzling us with performances that reinstate the belief that our students have the potential of competing on an international level and are second to none," he added.
The national champion will win a grand prize of Rs 2,00,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to witness the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC. The four semi-finalists will win Rs 50,000 each.
