A woman teacher has been accused of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl in a school on Dinnur Main Road in R.T. Nagar.
The
incident came to light on Friday after the girl reported the matter to
her parents, who took her to a local doctor before filing a police
complaint. Following the complaint, the police booked a case under the
Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. “We have
questioned the accused and are waiting for the medical reports for
further procedure,” he said.
The police counselled
the girl, who repeatedly confirmed the act by the teacher. “We are
waiting for the child to identify the teacher,” Additional Commissioner
of Police (Crime) P. Harishekharan said.
The incident occurred between 10.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. on Friday, a senior police officer said. .
Education
Department officials said that the complaint was not clear and said
they were not sure if it was a case of sexual assault.
Block Education Officer North-3 Ramesh, who visited the school on Saturday, could not meet the girl’s parents.
Mr.
Ramesh, however, said the school had complied with most of the safety
norms and the class in which the girl was studying had only woman
teachers.
Commissioner for Public Instruction
Mohammad Mohsin said the school was conducting classes one to 10 apart
from pre-primary classes. The school had not obtained permission for
pre-primary classes, he said. “We will serve a show-cause notice to the
school in this regard,” he said.
