HYDERABAD:
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday announced holiday on
January 1. He also announced that the government would construct a
beautifully designed Christian Bhavan in the city at a cost of Rs 10
crore. He was responding to a representation received by him at the 36th
Greater Hyderabad United Christmas Celebrations at the Lalita Kala
Toranam in Piublic Gardens on Thursday evening. As he read out the
request in the representation, it was greeted with loud cheers from the
gathering. In response, Chandrasekhar Rao said "this cheering is louder
than the one I received when I announced the struggle for Telangana. How
can I say no to such enthusiasm?" He then proceeded to declare January 1
a holiday amidst even louder cheers.
He said that deputy chief minister T Rajaih, who was on the dais, would work closely with senior government official Raymond Peter and ensure that a wonderful design for the building would be prepared.
Chandrasekhar Rao also promised that the foundation stone would be laid for the Christian Bhavan on December 25. "I promise you that we will all celebrate the next Christmas in 2015 in that new building," he said.
Chandrasekhar Rao also assured the gathering that the government would ensure that Christians are protected and their rights ensured. Any attack on Christians or their spiritual leaders will not be tolerated in Telangana and the government will take firm action, he said.
