Bengaluru:
A 17-year-old school dropout was allegedly beaten to death by a
building owner and his supervisor in Jalahalli, north Bengaluru, on
Tuesday afternoon.
Manjunath alias Water Manja, 41, and supervisor Hanumanthu, 38, were arrested on charges of murder.
The accused claimed the teenager, Tony Vincent, had sneaked into an under-construction building to steal materials. Tony was beaten for two hours with logs, police said. The assailants then dumped the body near a bush in HMT Colony; passersby alerted police about it on Wednesday morning.
Manjunath runs a water tanker business and is constructing a house in Mathikere, where Tony allegedly sneaked in around 3pm.
A resident of Siddarthanagar, west Jalahalli, Tony is survived by his parents and an elder brother. He had joined a year-long cooking course at a private college near Kanteerava Stadium.
According to his brother Arogyanadan, who deals in aluminum products, Tony left home on Tuesday morning and didn't return. "We thought he was with some friends. His mobile phone was also switched off. Jalahallli police called around 8am, asking us to rush to HMT Colony," he said. Arogyanadan identified the body.
"My father got him admitted for the course in January. But the trainers said Tony was very irregular. I don't know why they beat up my brother to death. He has never stolen anything in the past," he said.

TURN OF EVENTS
The accused duo said they caught hold of Tony while he was trying to walk away with a tile-cutting machine. A couple of machines had been stolen from the site in the past. The duo accused Tony of stealing them, tied him to a pillar and beat him up with logs for over two hours. They lost nerve when Tony died. Bundling the body into Manjunath's Santro, they disposed it of near HMT Colony late in the night. Vincent's ID card helped us identify him," Jalahalli police said.
