Nigerian caught with cocaine worth Rs 50 lakh

NEW DELHI: A Nigerian national was arrested by the crime branch on Wednesday, for possessing 50grams of cocaine worth Rs 50 lakhs. The accused has been identified as Uche Aaron Chiddi, and has been living in Delhi since 2011

On Tuesday, police received a tip-off and a team under MA Rizvi, DCP (crime) was formed. The accused was apprehended from Suraj Vihar bus stand opposite NSIT College when he went to deliver a consignment of cocaine to one of his associates. He was caught red handed just before he could deliver the consignment.

On a thorough search, the police found 50 gram of cocaine from his possession, said police.

The accused came to India on a tourist visa in 2011. He decided to shift to India because of his poor financial condition.

According to police, he used to frequently change his residence from Rohini to Dwarka to Chhatarpur, to conceal his identity and mislead the police. Initially, he started the export business and started exporting readymade garments and artificial jewellery to his brother in Nigeria.

On interrogation, the accused revealed that when his business was not doing well he got in contact with a fellow Nigerian, John, who got him into the drug business. However, he told police that he doesn't know John's address as they used to meet at market place only. The accused told police that he used to supply drugs at various malls and other crowded places.

The police have registered a case against him under the NDPS Act.
