PILIBHIT:
Four youth, one of them only 17 years old, attempted to molest a
32-year-old woman in Pilibhit late Thursday. The woman approached police
seeking action against the four, all aged 20 or less.
Munni Devi, a resident of Jamunia Khas village, told TOI that she was getting back home from the market at 5 pm on Thursday when the four boys she recognised - Majnu (19) Dharmendra (20), Kalloo (19) and Banti (17), first said lewd things in her hearing and then attempted to grab hold of her. She said the men tried to strip her. The woman told police that the four had been harassing her for a while, and had attempted to get their hands of them earlier too.
Munni Devi said the four young men had made other women in the village their victims too, and no action was ever taken against them. One of the men she accused, Majnu was arrested last year for molesting a girl. He had been let off after a compromise had been arrived at.
SP Sonia Singh said the matter would be probed, and the guilty would get stringent punishment. Asked if the juvenile would be treated as an adult offender, she said that is a matter only a court of law could decide.
