AHMEDABAD: The state government has pulled out all stops to play 'AtithiDevoBhava'
and ensure that there is no profiteering at the expense of Vibrant
Gujarat. At least seven teams of officials on Thursday reached 25-odd
four star and five star hotels to check their guest inventory and ensure
no rooms are blocked for renting out later at higher tariffs.
The teams also examined the quality and size of rooms booked for Vibrant Summit to make informed accommodation decisions for VIP and VVIP guests suitable to their stature.
About 15,000-18,000 guests are expected for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) and Vibrant Gujarat Summit scheduled for January. There are obvious concerns in the government regarding scarcity of rooms to host the high-profile guests in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
Sources said that the government teams led by senior IAS officials personally checked the inventory of hotels and asked for details of guests who have booked. "Instances of multiple blocking of rooms in a single name were detected. The teams asked to release the rooms kept vacant for bookings later," said a source close to the development. The teams personally checked each and every room of each hotel for quality assurance.
Additional chief secretary (education) Arvind Agarwal, who is in charge of protocol and accommodation for Vibrant Summit, said that the teams visited hotels to check the size, dimensions and quality of the rooms booked for VIP and VVIP guests.
