AHMEDABAD:
Cabbies of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are working on a quick switchover
to top-end vehicles like BMWs, Mercs and Audis as run-of-the-mill taxis
will not do for visitors to Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and Vibrant Gujarat
Global Investor Summit events next month.
The spurt in
demand for the right cars for global corporate honchos, diplomats and
politicians has taken city-based travel agencies to their counterparts
in Mumbai, Udaipur and other cities.
"With eight countries
partnering VGGIS-2015, there is huge interest in business communities
across the globe. Top bosses of various companies would surely look for
premium cabs for travel," said Shreeram Patel, Gujarat chapter chairman
of Travel Agent Association of India . Mahendra Vakharia, director of a
city-based travel company, says rentals for these premium cars vary from
Rs 50 to Rs 150 per km with a minimum 200 km travel per day. The
average daily rental for premium cabs could be anywhere between Rs
10,000 and Rs 25,000.
Chekit Patel, president of Gujarat Luxury Cab Owner's Association, said they would require at least 3,000 luxury cars.
