Kollywood has treated the Tamilians all
over the world with three wonderful movies for this Pongal – Vikram’s I,
Vishal’s Aambala and GV Prakash’s Darling.
Shankar’s ‘I’ was released three days
before, on January 14th and Vishal’s Aambala and GV Prakash’s Darling
were released on January 15th. It is clearly evident that all films are
facing tough competition at the box office. Film experts as well as fans
are now busy comparing the box office collections of the films.
Theater owners and trade analysts in
Tamil Nadu say that Vikram’s I dominates the scene and Aambala and
Darling are also getting safe bets. Footfalls in theatres are reported
to be the highest for this festival.
Here, let us also have a look at the collections of the Pongal movies:
Shankar’s I
I is showing a rocking business despite
getting mixed reviews from the critics and the audience alike. The movie
has collected Rs 34 crore worldwide on the opening day of its release.

well in all places it was released. I has created box office history in
Kerala grossing Rs 3.05 cr from 225 screens on day 1 and Rs 2.52 cr on
day 2. Two days’ collection in Kerala alone is Rs 5.57 cr.
Not only in Kerala, the film is doing
excellent in Karnataka and Andhra. Reports say the response in the
overseas markets such as the US, UK, Singapore and Malaysia is also
tremendous. The film has raked in over $500K in two days at the US box
office.
Aggressive promotions and worldwide release along with the powerful Shankar-Vikram combo have helped “I” garner a big amount.
