MUMBAI:
A truck loaded with cotton thread bundles plying on the Mumbai-Pune
Expressway caught fire at around 7am due to short circuit. The incident
occurred near the Lonavala exit on the Pune carriageway some 47 kms on
the expressway. The blaze completely charred the truck while the driver
managed to escape unhurt.
The Lonavala fire brigade extinguished the fire. The traffic got disrupted for more than two hours as the vehicles heading towards Pune were allowed to ply only on the two lanes of the Pune carriageway while one lane of the Mumbai direction carriageway was kept open for the vehicles to ply in opposite direction.
The expressway control room staff informed that the traffic movement heading towards Pune moved at a snail pace and that it would be restored to normalcy by around 11 am
