BHUBANESWAR:
Worried over non-implementation of huge number of pending warrants of
State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and consumer forums, the
state government has asked all SPs to instruct police stations under
their jurisdiction to execute them.
"In view of specific provisions under Consumer Protection Act, 1986, and recommendations of a high-level meeting, I request you to issue suitable instructions to police stations for execution of pending warrants of the commission and consumer forums," said food supplies and consumer welfare secretary Madhusudan Padhi in his letter to all SPs on Tuesday. Padhi said, "Non-implementation of orders passed by the commission and consumer forums causes unnecessary harassment to consumers".
He said this matter was discussed at a meeting, chaired by chief secretary last month. It was recommended that specific instructions shall be issued to executing agencies like district magistrates and SPs for implementation of the orders expeditiously. "It is sheer negligence on the part of government for which several pending warrants of the commission and consumer forums could not be executed," said president, State Consumer Association, Karunakar Jena.
