COIMBATORE: A sub-inspector from the city armed reserve (AR) police has been placed under suspension on Thursday after he misfired his weapon while removing bullets from the magazine at the armory located at the Police Recruitment School (PRS) here on Wednesday evening.

The SI, Manimaran, who is attached with the city Armed Reserve police had been deployed along with other personnel for providing round-the-clock security for Abudhakir, an accused in the bomb blast case who has been undergoing treatment at a private hospital here for kidney failure. One SI, one head constable and four constables were deployed every eight hours at the hospital.

As per rules, every policeman needs to remove bullets from the magazine and insert the empty magazine in the pistol and trigger. Only then can he/she surrender the gun.
