Agra/Mathura:
A day after Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and Lashkar-e-Taiba's (LeT) combined
plan to target an unspecified area on the New Delhi-Agra highway and two
hotel lobbies in the national capital was sounded out by Indian
intelligence operatives, police escalated security at various places in
the city, including the Yamuna Expressway and Mathura Refinery.
Speaking to TOI, DIG (Agra) Laxmi Singh said all SSPs and SPs have been asked to increase police patrolling at public places with high footfall like railways and public transport. Security arrangements have been tightened at schools as well.
Singh added that since intelligence reports have hinted at attacks on the New Delhi-Agra highway, security presence had been beefed up at places which are perceived to be soft targets, including toll plazas.
The police are also keeping a special tab on hotels in the city. Police said hoteliers have been asked to cooperate in security matters.
Temples of Mathura and Vrindavan have been put on high alert. Vehicles entering Vrindavan from the Yamuna Expressway are being closely screened, Mathura SSP Manzil Saini said.
Vigilance has been upped at entry points to the Sri Krishn Janam Bhoomi complex. The Daan Ghati temple in Goverdhan has been put under police watch, as the number of pilgrims is likely to pick up around the full moon night.
"We have placed dog and bomb squads at such spots to avoid any untoward situation. Senior police officials have been asked to remain vigilant, especially at night. Entry of people and vehicles in the city too are being monitored," Agra DIG said, adding that they have asked hotel employees to co-operate with them in security matters.
On Monday, a day before the Peshawar school attack, US intelligence agency had shared specific inputs with India about Islamic militants' plan to attack the country.
