AURANGABAD:
The state government has sanctioned five new primary health centres
(PHCs) to Aurangabad district. The construction work of one of them at
Waluj would begin soon.
Vijay Wagh, assistant district health officer in the Aurangabad Zilla Parishad (ZP), said, "The state government has sanctioned five PHCs in Aurangabad which would be established at Waluj, Ambelohal (Gangapur taluka), Pimplagaon Valan (Phulambri taluka), Chauka (Aurangabad taluka) and Baradi (Sillod taluka)."
He said, "About 3 acres of land has been allotted at Waluj. With the tender procedure for constructing the building in progress, the work would start in a week. The PHC at Waluj would become functional in a year and would cater to a population of around 1 lakh."
"The proposed PHC would have 52 beds and will also have facilities to perform surgeries, post-mortems and deliveries," he said.
"The land acquisition process at four other places is also in progress. The procedure will be completed soon and the PHCs would be functional by next year," Wagh added.
Waluj sarpanch Ranjana Bhond said with the establishment of the PHC, healthcare facility would improve not only for the residents of Waluj, but also for the people of Ranjangaon, Jogeshwari, Ramrai, Ghanegaon, Shivneri, Pimpalkheda, Narayanpur and Lanji gram panchyats.
"The total project cost is estimated at Rs 3.65 crore of which Rs 2.4 crore would be utilised for the construction of administrative building, about Rs 90 lakh for hospital and Rs 52 lakh for building staff quarters," Bhond said.
"The centre would be equipped with all possible infrastructure. Altogether 14 employees, including doctors and para-medical staff, would be appointed," she said.
"Earlier, Waluj residents were devoid of healthcare facilities with only one poorly-equipped Zilla Parishad sub-centre. With no proper medical facility at the sub-centre, patients have to go to either Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) or private medical practitioners," she added.
