MADURAI:
The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Friday directed police to
conduct a fresh inquiry into a complaint against Tamil Nadu tourism
minister S P Shanmuganathan.
Justice S Vaidyanathan passed the
order on a petition filed by S Inbaraj, 51, a teacher at a private
school in Sathankulam, observing that the Sathankulam police had
perfunctory closed the petitioner's complaint against the minister.
The judge directed the police to probe the petitioner's complaint afresh, based on the Supreme Court's guidelines in the Lalitha Kumari case, within seven days after receipt of the court order and proceed further if a prima facie case is made out.
The petitioner had prayed the court to recall its December 8 order closing his plea against the minister.
Inbaraj lodged a complaint with the Sathankulam police on December 1 stating that he had faced threat to his life from the minister and his henchmen who wanted him to give his share of property to his ex-wife, a teacher working at a government-aided school.
He alleged that the minister had developed intimacy with his ex-wife, which resulted in him facing life threat from the minister's side.
As there was no action from the side of the police, he moved the court.
However, the police filed a report stating that the petitioner's complaint was false, based on which the court closed the case.
Aggrieved over this, the petitioner again filed a petition stating that the police committed fraud by filing a false report.
