Popular
comedian Venu was manhandled by members of the Goud community on Sunday
morning at a temple in Filmnagar. A group of 30-odd members belonging
to the Goud community surrounded the actor and physically assaulted him
for allegedly cracking derogatory jokes about their caste on a TV show
Jabardasth. Police intervened and dispersed the mob and ferreted away
Venu to a nearby private hospital. The actor suffered minor bruises in
the scuffle.
"This is not the first time he (Venu) has cracked
jokes about our community. We had warned him earlier, but to no avail.
He again made jokes poking fun at our community in the episode telecast
on December 18. Yes, we climb the toddy trees and tap toddy but nobody
has a right to make fun of what we do or our line of work. We will not
tolerate this and are warning the channel and makers of the show to stop
slighting our community," warned an angry protester. Incidentally, this
isn't the first time that the show has been under scanner for allegedly
cracking derogatory jokes. Few days ago, a lawyer filed a complaint
against the show in Karimnagar district, for taking a dig at the
judiciary in one of the episodes.
Meanwhile, Venu has filed a complaint against the attackers at the Banjara Hills police station.
