Agra:
While Mulayam Singh Yadav's grand nephew and Mainpuri MP Tej Pratap
Singh Yadav was busy in his engagement function, police received a call
from a person claiming to be Tej, asking for the immediate release of a
murder accused.
The caller told police he was 'Taju Yadav' and asked them to immediately release an alleged murder accused. He was arrested by cops on Wednesday and the mobile and SIM card used to make the call was seized.
Talking to TOI, SSP Shalabh Mathur said an FIR of murder was lodged against Virendra Pal Singh and Rajveer Singh in Kargaul police station on December 13. The accused had murdered a villager.
"Police had arrested Virendra Pal and Rajveer Singh on December 13. Two days after the accused were arrested, police received a call in which the caller claimed he was Mainpuri MP Tej Pratap Singh Yadav and demanded that the accused be released," added SSP.
He added that to check the authenticity of the caller, police traced the call details which showed that the caller was a man called Avdesh, hailing from Hathras.
"We confirmed the news with Tej Pratap Singh Yadav who said he had not not made any such call. Later, the police team lead by SP, rural, Babita Sahu arrested the caller from a drinking-water point on Tuesday night," said the SSP.
Police have also lodged an FIR under section 278/14, 420, 419, 170 against the fake caller.
