BMC official trapped


MUMBAI: A BMC inspector who demanded a sum of Rs 4,000 to settle a fine for gumasta license from a social organization was caught by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday.
Ravindra Gopale who was in charge of the gumasta license was booked under the prevention of corruption act and was remanded to police custody. Gopale was attached to P North BMC ward at Malad.
According to the police, the complaint alleged that he was having a office in Malad from where he was doing a social work for those unemployed youths. He recently received notice from the BMC alleging that his gumasta licence (a shop license) had expired and there a fine of Rs 13,500. The complainant requested that he would not be able to make so big amount and asked to reduce the fine. Gopale agreed condition that he will have to cough up Rs 4,000 as bribe. The complainant approached the ACB and laid a trap.
